Mission Statement
The mission of the Monticello Police Department is to provide quality law enforcement services to the public; protection of citizen's lives, prevention and deterrence of crime, swift and sure apprehension of offenders, and return of property to it's rightful owners.
In accomplishing those basic functions, our law enforcement staff is organized and trained to enforce the laws of this city, state, and country proactively, and to intervene to protect the welfare and safety of all citizens. At the same time, officers must function within the guidelines that safeguard everyone's constitutional right to life and liberty.
Officers of the Monticello Police Department are trained from the onset of their career that to serve the citizens of Monticello is a privilege not a right. They learn that their most basic fundamental duty is to serve the citizens of Monticello, to the best of their ability. The citizen is the most important person in our department, not an interruption of our work, but the purpose for it.
Officers are also taught to recognize the badge as a symbol of the public faith entrusted to them. Officers are expected to keep their personal and professional lives honest, uncorrupt, and to show restraint and integrity in every official act.
Finally, newly and those with long tenure are continuously reminded that their duty is to enforce the law courteously and appropriately, without fear or favor, malice or ill will. They are to never permit personal feelings, prejudices, animosities, or friendships influence their official duties. |
