Charlie Elliott Wildlife Center's programs encourage you to learn more about nature, wildlife conservation, and outdoor recreation. Using 6400 acres set aside by the Georgia Wildlife Resources Division for your enjoyment, these programs often use the outdoors as a classroom. Special off-site programs are offered as well.

The State of Georgia purchased several tracts of land including Marben and Clybel Farms in the spring of 1993. This land is located approximately 12 miles north of Monticello in Jasper and Newton Counties. The Wildlife Resources Division manages this land as Marben Public Fishing Area, Clybel Wildlife Management Area, and Preaching Rock Wildlife Education Center.
The entire area is called THE CHARLIE ELLIOTT WILDLIFE CENTER. | |
The Clybel Wildlife Management Area
|
The Clybel Wildlife Management Area provides a wide variety of opportunities, including hunting, fishing, hiking, birdwatching, horseback riding, shooting ranges, camping, picnicking and many other wildlife-associated recreational opportunities. |
The Marben Public Fishing Area
|
The Marben Public Fishing Area will provide a variety of sport fishing opportunities for Georgia's anglers. Twenty-two lakes, totaling approximately 300 acres of water, are managed for public fishing and aquatic education. The three largest lakes on the area are Fox Lake (95 acres), Bennett (70 acres) and Margery (40 acres). The remaining lakes range from 18 acres to less than one acre in size. Handicapped accessible facilities including piers, wheelchair accessible fishing stations and restrooms are under development. Some of these facilities are already completed and in use. The lakes will be managed to provide good habitat for other wildlife. The area will provide non-consumptive users with a variety of opportunities including birdwatching, nature appreciation, outdoor education, wildlife photography and hiking. Several smaller lakes have been dedicated exclusively for kids fishing events and other educational activities. |
Preaching Rock Wildlife Education Center
|
See the hours listed above for visiting the Education Center. There are plans to develop the Preaching Rock Wildlife Education Center as an outdoor classroom where Georgia's teachers can learn more about habitat restoration, wildlife management and other wildlife and environmental issues then return to their classrooms better prepared to educate their students. The education center will be available to teachers, students and other groups. Summer camps will also be available in the future. The Outreach Program of the Preaching Rock Wildlife Education Center takes programs to schools to teach children about wildlife, nature resources and the outdoors. Many of the programs use live animals to teach topics such as animal characteristics, adaptation, habitats and classifications. |
